A public sector focused on ethical behaviour

Published 4 August 2023

Queensland public sector employees are confident in their understanding of what constitutes ethical behaviour and knowing how to report unethical behaviour.

This is just one of many insights from the 2022 Working for Queensland survey, which captured the views of 85,853 Queensland Government employees from 68 agencies.

The annual survey, in its tenth year, continues to provide insights into the experience of working in the Queensland public sector.

The 2022 survey featured an updated questionnaire that was designed to provide actionable insights and reflect the strategic priorities of the sector.

The new survey focuses on managing work demands, the way work contributes positively to the work lives of employees, as well as the priority areas of diversity, inclusion, respect, psychosocial safety and health and wellbeing.

The importance of ethics was clear, with 92 per cent of respondents having confidence in understanding what constitutes ethical behaviour, and 86 per cent feeling confident in knowing how to report unethical behaviour.

Sixty-six per cent of respondents indicated they are proud to tell others that they work for their organisation.

The results indicate the public sector is serving the people of Queensland with integrity, pride and commitment.

For the first time, the survey also explored the experience of racism and discrimination in the workplace, with findings used by agencies to build safe, respectful and inclusive workplaces.
