Flexible work options

The Queensland Government recognises that achieving a balance between work, family and lifestyle commitments can produce a happier and more effective workforce. 

Agencies are encouraged to attract and retain skilled people through a range of work-life balance strategies including part-time work, job sharing, teleworking, accumulated (flexible) time, and extra leave for proportionate salary.

The Public Service Commission (PSC) is also working with government agencies on a range of initiatives and strategies to reduce urban congestion including examining the feasibility of alternative working and travel arrangements.

Flexible Workplace Program

The Flexible Workplace Program,  funded by the Urban Congestion Taskforce, is a key cross agency initiative highlighting the importance of integrating flexible work and workplace options.  The program is in two phases.  The first phase, Flexible Workplace Program – Brisbane CBD pilot is being coordinated by the Department of Transport and Main Roads and will run from 1-26 June 2009.  The second phase, Flexible Workplace Program – Supported implementation is being coordinated by the PSC and will commence in July 2009 and continue for 16 weeks.

An Interagency Coordination and Advisory Network (ICAN) has been established to
support the program.  The network draws together agencies with expertise in areas relating to flexible work practices such as Human Resources (PSC), Industrial Relations (Department of Justice and Attorney-General), Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and accommodation (Department of Public Works).
