The Australia and New Zealand School of Government

The Australia and New Zealand School of Government (ANZSOG) is a world-leading educational institution that teaches strategic management and high-level public policy to public sector leaders. It was established in 2002 by a consortium of governments, universities and business schools, and is also home to a substantial research program that aims to deepen government, community and academic understanding of public administration, policy and management.

The Queensland Government, Griffith University and University of Queensland are founding members of ANZSOG. To find out more about ANZSOG in Queensland, please visit the ANZSOG website.

ANZSOG educational programs

Developing strategic leadership skills in public sector managers requires a different educational framework to what is appropriate for private sector managers. Where business schools teach how to 'create shareholder value', ANZSOG’s mission is to teach public sector managers how to 'create public value'.

ANZSOG’s programs in Queensland include:

Executive Fellows Program
The Executive Fellows Program (EFP) is a three-week residential program building on the core relationship and management skills needed in the public sector of the 21st Century. This program is tailored for Directors-General, Associate Directors-General and Deputy Directors-General.

Executive Master of Public Administration
The Executive Master of Public Administration (EMPA) is a two-year degree program designed for future leaders, developing management and policy skills needed in today’s public sector. The EMPA is tailored for AO8 to SES level officers.

Towards Strategic Leadership
Towards Strategic Leadership (TSL) is delivered over three separate residential sessions, TSL is a program specifically designed for people moving from tactical into strategic leadership roles in government, i.e. people facing senior executive responsibilities for the first time.

Scholarships

The Queensland Government offers scholarships each year for both the EFP (up to eight places) and the EMPA (up to ten places).
