Graduates

Every year, more than 600 graduates are recruited into the Queensland Public Service, many of whom will be in mid-level positions within a few years. The Queensland Government Graduate Portal now makes it easier to select the best candidates from a wide range of disciplines and academic qualifications.

What is the Graduate Portal?

The Queensland Government Graduate Portal is a one stop shop website and recruitment system for university students and graduates to attract high quality graduates to the sector. The Portal provides a cost effective approach to graduate recruitment that is resilient to machinery of government changes. The system is not designed for high volume graduate recruitment (teachers, policy, emergency services and nurses), but can assist with hard to fill vacancies such as surveying, child safety, procurement and engineering.

The front end of the Graduate Portal is a whole of government website to attract and engage university talent through the use of social media and online communication channels. The backend of the Graduate Portal is a better and faster streamlined recruitment system with a purpose built filtering functionality to short list and process thousands of applications efficiently.

Benefits of the Graduate Portal for agency users

Queensland Government agencies and statutory offices can take advantage of the Graduate Portal to attract and recruit:

  • graduates for graduate development programs
  • graduates for entry level roles, and
  • university students for pre-graduate employment and work experience opportunities

A streamlined recruitment system

The Graduate Portal is a streamlined recruitment system which has been developed and customised to meet the specific graduate recruitment needs of agencies. Access to the recruitment system is provided to graduate coordinators in each agency. The system enables agencies to search by:

  • disciplines, including dual degrees
  • visa/ residency status
  • date degree completed
  • identified as Indigenous, by gender or disability, and
  • Grade Point Average (GPA).

The system also boasts a unique filtering function to enable agencies to shortlist and manage bulk recruitment programs easily.

Sector wide marketing support is available

The Graduate Portal promotes employment across the sector through cost effective whole of government marketing. The Public Service Commission is working with agencies to actively promote the Portal through:

Marketing collateral actively promotes the advantage of submitting one application to apply for most graduate jobs with Queensland's largest employer.

Consultation and engagement opportunities

As part of the annual contribution paid by agencies, the Graduate Portal Coordinators Network provides agencies with the opportunity to contribute to the development of the Graduate Portal and learn from each other’s recruitment experience.
